Council President Report
September is my favorite time of year. The weather gets cooler, I can wear sweaters and I love the crisp mornings and chilly nights. I live in El Cajon in the house that I grew up in. We moved there when I was just 8 years old; it was actually around my birthday. My golden year they call it since I was born May 8th.
When my Mom died of cancer she left the house for me and my sisters. She passed away on a chilly cloudy day in March lying in a hospital bed that we put in the front room because she wanted to be around something familiar and not sterile and cold like a hospital. I was seventeen and the twins, my sisters, were about to turn sweet 16...sometimes I am in our house and I can feel her there. I see her walking down the hallway telling us to turn down our music.
It’s very special and important to live in our house. El Cajon, like the rest of the world, has changed a lot. Recently because of my husband David being on disability we have struggled to pay our bills. So we were asked "Why don’t you sell your house? Get out of California live somewhere less expensive.” Why? Because I know we are blessed in so many ways. I have a job I love, we have loving friends, a loving church family, great schools; we have deep roots where we live. We are the neighbors that help people, we are the house that the kids come to get snacks because no parent is home. We are the ones who clean up the trash and we take care of peoples’ houses when they are gone. Once David helped a homeless teenager by letting him shower and washed his clothes for him. I was upset at the time but later on I knew what he did was a true act of kindness. I served on my children’s schools PTA for almost 10 years. The events we planned created memories for all of those kids. In this way I hope I was showing them a little bit of God. Because I truly believe it is in our kind acts that we show our Jesus to the world.
In this way if not with my words do I praise him but also trying to help people as much as I can. I was blessed with a servant’s heart. And I hope that is what living and struggling to live in our home shows people. If I could ask my church family one thing please pray for us and our house. Thank you everyone for your love and support.
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
