Our Gospel reading from the book of John finds Jesus In the upper room with His disciples continuing His farewell discourse. It is the night of His arrest and within twenty-four hours He will have been crucified and laid in a tomb. Jesus tells His disciples He will be returning to the Father but will not leave them as orphans. He will send the Paraclete.
Today we celebrate the Festival of Pentecost. We read in the book of Acts chapter two that while the disciples were gathered together the Holy Spirit was poured out on them. Peter preached a sermon and 3,000 people believed in Jesus.

Paraclete is the Greek word Jesus used to describe the Holy Spirit. It has been translated counselor, comforter, advocate and helper. The Holy Spirit will continue the work Jesus began during His time on earth. The Holy Spirit is yet another gift God gives us. Join me as together we unwrap God’s gift on the Paraclete!
